Oregonian singer/songwriter Colin Meloy and his band The Decemberists arrive with their first full-length album since 2006, this time churning out a concept album about star-crossed lovers. (How Slumdog Millionaire of them.)
Inspired by Anne Briggs' 1966 EP of the same name, Meloy initially set out to make Hazards a stage production, but felt it was better suited as a rock record.
As a Decemberists concept, it seems part of a natural evolution for a group which already demonstrated a flair for story-telling and elaborate song structures (i.e., "The Crane Wife" cycle, and, of course, "The Mariner's Revenge Song").
The album is already available in vinyl and digital formats. It is The Decemberists fifth full-length album and second for Capitol.
