Thumbing through tracks on my iPod Monday night, I came across D'Angelo's Voodoo album, a blast of R&B greatness that ranks with Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On as one of the genre's best. "Untitled (How Does it Feel?)," his Prince homage, is essential listening.
But where'd he go? Voodoo was nearly eight years ago. He was in a car accident an ran afoul of the law in 2005, but it's been a quiet path to his third album in 12 years.
That's an album-release schedule that exceeds the Lucinda Williams/Tool/Nine Inch Nails' standard for moving slowly.
We're not in Guns N' Roses territory yet, but can that be far off?
